Flat Sassy
Sassy had a neat project in her 1st grade this semester. They read the book Flat Stanley. That happened to be one of my favorites as a kid and, as a grown up, I tracked down a first edition copy for my library. That’s a delightful and expensive hobby of mine. For those of you who are unfamiliar, Stanley is a little boy that becomes flattened when a huge bulletin board falls on him in the night and squishes him. After the initial turmoil, he decides being flat is great fun and, among other adventures, he mails himself on vacation. Sassy’s class each made a flat version of themselves and then mailed them to a friend or family member. The friend was asked to take pictures with the flat version and then mail them back, and as a class, they could talk about the geography or history lesson, or what have you. My Honey and I pondered who we should have Sassy send her Flat Sassy to, and ultimately I asked my uncle (www.newmexiken.com) if he would be willing. I chose him because not only is he fun, but he travels a lot. I figured Flat Sassy might get to do some cool stuff. Well, Sassy’s class was not disappointed. My uncle gave Flat Sassy to his friend, and she took her to Washington DC as well as the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival and the New Mexico State Fair. Check out some of the cool stuff Flat Sassy did.

What a cool thing, huh! There were so many more.
I’m just jealous. I’m hanging a giant bulletin board over by bed tonight and hoping for the best.
